SunGrabber Electric Hot Water System Layout
The single tank configuration is applicable for electric hot water heaters. The diagram illustrates the easiest way to add solar. (Note: gas hot water heaters require a separate solar storage tank.)
A solar storage tank is used to hold water heated by the solar collectors through the heat exchanger. The solar heated water is drawn through the water heater and into your home, causing your water heater to use less energy. The ideal storage tank is an electric water heater. They are well insulated and already have the required plumbing connections.
Additional system options and system sizing, such as an additional solar storage tank, two or more solar collectors or an anti-scald valve, are available.
